I’m SO humbled by these words 💜Hearing good n I’m SO humbled by these words 💜Hearing good news like this is why I do what I do. Yes I use #yoga #functionalmedicine and #lifestylemedicine in my #physicaltherapy practice - which looks quite different than what you may expect from typical PT. Every person is unique and every #medicaltherapeuticyoga plan I create is individualized to a person’s needs and goals. So seeing this on a colleague’s page today inspires me to keep pushing forward. To keep helping, to keep creating, to keep loving what I do!

Is it A Retorn Labrum? Or Not? I’ve seen Is it A Retorn Labrum? Or Not?

I’ve seen and hear LOTS of stories about women having new pain after hip arthroscopy around the 8 week mark.

Let me tell you, you aren’t alone.

“This week I stepped out into the regular community again for the first time by attending church. I needed some spiritual nourishment, as well as a new challenge. But my brave outing also caused new pain! Or did it? After the 3 floor stair climb and an extended bit of walking to get to church, as well as sitting upright on a hard bench for an hour with repeated sit to stands (hello psoas!), I had a new knee pain. Fortunately, I didn’t panic. Being a PT I had some pretty good ideas what was causing it. A little backstory goes a long way when you are trying to figure out what new groin and knee pain mean after having a hip scope."

There were two big causative factors:

1. Prolonged immobilization that was required for a successful surgery, and,

2. The injury happened during my third childbirth, which meant I couldn’t fully recover my core or any of my body after giving birth due to the hip injury.

I’ve been taking workshops with my favorite modern poet, David Whyte, on exploring deeper conversations since just after the pandemic began.

This passage I captured from a workshop is a bit of what inspires me show up and do my best, on yet another regular pandemic/homeschool/workday Monday morning…

What invitation is your resting face making to the world?

The resting face is what you think no one else sees.

The resting private face is the face you have turned toward yourself.

The inner stranger that wants to become the more generous, mature, more enlightened you - is trying to hold a conversation from the inside to the outside. But it often meets this very grim visage.

What kind of invitation do you respond to - where the best of you comes out?

Try to reciprocate and give that invitation that you want - to others. Imagine if we all did that, how much better - more loving, more patient, more kind, and more productive! - the world would be.

To me, building #graciousspace through activities like this is the heart of what practicing #integrativelifestylemed is all about - taking an integrative approach to making lifestyle choices that are healthy and sustainable

“Since our country’s founding, women have been “Since our country’s founding, women have been left out of the constitution - intentionally.” When the ERA is ratified, we will be second-class citizens no longer.

This year is our chance after waiting 100 years since the legislation was originally introduced in 1923. I’m stoked to see this bipartisan effort already taking place in D.C.

Ratifying the ERA will absolutely help us improve and tackle long-neglected women’s health issues, such as the soaring maternal and infant mortality rate in the US.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Ben Cardin (D-Md.) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) announced Thursday that the first bipartisan legislation they will introduce for the 117th Congress is their joint resolution to remove the deadline to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. Ratification of the ERA would expressly prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex in the U.S. Constitution. In the House of Representatives, the resolution is being introduced by Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) and Congressman Tom Reed (R-N.Y.).

Almost exactly one year ago, in January 2020, Virginia became the 38th state to ratify the ERA, which was first proposed in 1972.

“There should be no time limit on equality. Even as we celebrate America’s first female Vice President, our nation is held back as the only modern constitution that fails to enshrine full equality for both men and women. This is unacceptable,” said Senator Cardin.

“Most Americans are surprised to learn that the ERA is not already part of the U.S. Constitution. The states have done their job to make this happen. Now Congress must finally do its job and remove any legal obstacles to certifying the ERA.”

“As we begin a new Congress, I can think of no better legislation to lead with than one that removes impediments to find ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment—an amendment that firmly embeds in law equality between men and women. We first moved the ERA through Congress back in 1972, but we stalled out on certification by the states until last year when Virginia ratified the ERA. After years of work alongside Senator Cardin, I urge my colleagues to join us in ensuring equality for all,” said Senator Murkowski.
